Final Year Game Project
This was the final year project for my SP life. I was the producer, lead game designer, programmer and sound artist/designer for the game. I got together with some of my friends and classmates and formed Big Ball Studios.
Our idea for our final year game was ambitious and we wanted to try out something completely new and something we've never tried to do before in any of our past projects.
The idea we started with was an ambitious semi-open world RPG game that involved a leveling system and a "Hack N' Slash" combat system. We referenced a lot from games like Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy XV.
However, as projects go, we had to tone it down and it became less open and more linear, going more in-line with the game Devil May Cry.
As a producer / lead game designer, I had a clear idea of what I wanted the game to look and feel like. I distributed work accordingly to my teammates based on their specialties or if anyone wanted to try something new. I had to keep my team motivated and tried to keep it going even as problems arose during the duration of the project.
As a programmer, I programmed most of the boss' mechanics and the character's movement and the combat system.
As the sound artist, I recorded all of the game's music. I had an interest in music and playing the guitar and so I put it to use on this project by using an audio mixing / recording software and recorded guitar riffs and added on other instruments with the software's virtual instruments. I had a lot of fun in this aspect of the game.
The game puts the player in the shoes of Miles, a student at a school of technology and has background with game designing. The whole school one day gets sucked in to a game with a steampunk theme but with a lot of visual glitches. Miles reaches school late and this causes him to be able to bring in something different into the game, allowing him to be the only one to beat the game and rescue everyone trapped in the game. Follow Miles as he finds out what really happened and interact with NPCs in the game.
Miles is equipped with a sword that can transform into a gunblade and a gauntlet that can hook enemies and can serve as a grappling hook that can help him cross platforms. There are 4 levels with a boss at the end of each one and the player will need to learn different mechanics and also make use of 4 abilities Miles can use.
